Toothsome Tactics: Bite Down on These Dental Hygiene Tips

Dental Hygiene and Oral Care

Dental Hygiene and Oral CareYour teeth play a vital role in everyday life, whether it’s chewing food or flashing a gorgeous smile. And while most people brush their teeth three times a day, they sometimes neglect regular visits to the dentist or even simply flossing.

There are plenty of things you can do for better dental health. In Fort Worth, family dentists from ORA Dental advise that you take the following extra steps to keep your pearly whites healthy and strong.

Cleaning the Entire Mouth

When brushing your teeth, do not forget to brush other parts of your mouth as well. Your teeth are attached to gums, which are attached to other parts of your mouth, such as your cheek and tongue. This is why brushing your entire mouth is important.

When brushing, place the bristles at a 45-degree angle near the gum line so that you draw contact with both your teeth and gums. Brush both the outside and inside of your teeth and gums. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean the inside of your teeth isn’t prone to decay.

Brush your tongue and roof of your mouth. This will get rid of any bad breath-causing bacteria. When brushing any part of the mouth, use light and gentle strokes to prevent bruising.

Teeth-Friendly Diet

Your teeth play a key role in eating so it’s pretty obvious how certain foods can affect your teeth. Foods high in sugar can leave residue on your enamel and turn to acid. This acid eats away at your teeth, causing damage.

Tobacco and alcohol can also damage teeth or stain them permanently. Tobacco is proven to cause mouth cancer, and alcohol contains as much sugar and phosphorus as soda. Having too much phosphorus can cause your body to neutralize calcium and lead to tooth decay.

While there are foods that harm teeth, there are also foods you can eat to strengthen them. Eating fresh, crunchy produce not only strengthens teeth, but it is also a good source of fiber.

Your teeth allow you to live a fuller, happier and healthier life, and by taking care of them, you are also taking care of your future.
